Enabling Two Factor Authentication (2FA) into Portal
We will be removing memorable word verification and replacing it with two factor authentication for Portal logins.
Starting this week, we are improving the security measures for your Portal account to help protect it against attackers by removing the memorable word security question and replacing it with two factor authentication (2FA). There is nothing you need to do to enable this and the next time you log in to Portal you will be prompted to set up 2FA by entering your phone number which will provide you with a code that will allow you to log in.
Once 2FA is live you will be met with this screen the next time you log into Portal.
After entering your phone number you will be sent a code to confirm the set up.
From this point on the phone number will be saved and you will receive a verification code whenever you log into Portal. Please note that your phone number will only be used for 2FA and will not be used for marketing or any other purposes.
Top tip: If you are using the same device for Portal you can check “Remember this device” to stop you needing a 2FA code on that device for the next 30 days.
Why is two factor authentication important?
By enabling 2FA we can add an extra level of protection to your Portal account to help keep it secure against attackers. With 2FA enabled, even attackers who obtain your password will not be able to get access to your account (provided you do not share the 2FA code with them), protecting your business and adverts. As always to ensure you are protected we advise you to use a strong and unique password for your Portal account to reduce the risk of it being breached.
Example of two factor authentication in practice
2FA is a common security measure implemented by many companies such as banks and email providers to keep accounts secure.
